About the Author
Rev. Mark Bosco, S.J., holds joint appointments in the Departments of English and Theology at Loyola University Chicago. He received his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Theology and Literature from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. Dr. Bosco s teaching and research interests lie in the intersection between theological discourse and literary texts, especially those of the British and American Catholic Literary Revival of the twentieth century. He is the author of two books, including most recently Graham Greene s Catholic Imagination (Oxford University Press, 2005).

Dr. Kimberly Rae Connor is Associate Professor in the College of Professional Studies at the University of San Francisco. She received her Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia. Dr. Connor s academic interests focus on African American religious life and cultural production. She is the author of three books, including most recently Imagining Grace: Liberating Theologies in the Slave Narrative Tradition (University of Illinois Press, 2000).

Despite Duncan's best efforts to show that Miyole's own past makes her sympathetic toward the kidnapped man's family, the characters feel underdeveloped, and readers will struggle to feel invested in their conflicts and relationships. Diverse characters populate this novel. Miyole, in addition to being a brilliant female scientist, is a lesbian of Haitian descent who has grown up in foster care in India. Two other lesbian characters are included, as well as a character who is Deaf.
