Far darker and more modern than I had expected. I can see why this play lives and remains famous long after more traditional plays of its times have become obscure. Far more realistic in some way than Shakespeare, honestly. The argument between Jason and Medea at the very end feels incredibly true to life; bitter recriminations, neither side listening to what the other has to say, leading to absolutely no resolution; no sense of justice whatsoever, either from society or the Gods, and no sense of any to come, either. I mean, Jason paid for what he did, granted, but there's no sense that justice really figures into it. Of course, this is all in translation, so of course it seems more modern in that sense than Elizabethan theater, but the story itself contains so much less poetry in its structure that it's honestly hard to believe that this piece is 2,000 years older than, say, Hamlet. Not, of course, that that's everything; Hamlet is a masterpiece, too, but one of a very different sort. My point is more that there's considerably more to get out of at least this bit of Greek theater than you might think, if you've never read any...

I highly recommend the Kindle/e-book version because you can take advantage of the instant cross-referencing of terms. Barr-avo!

Extremely pleased with this purchase. It turns out, you can use it to tremendously enhance your studies on the English language, whether writing Academic papers or not. I purchased this book because I thought it might be useful for my ESL and writing tutees. It far exceeds my expectations. This academic phrasebook is useful for native English writers and ESL writers alike at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Even experienced research writers will find it useful. For instance, my favorite chapter, "Chapter 6 Referencing," gives 43 ways to introduce in-text references. So if you are tired of saying, "According to . . ." and "X reports that . . . ," this book is well worth the price.

Basically, I have no words to express how good and useful this book is. It seeks to shed light on how to better write dissertations, essays etc, by providing the user with chunks they might not even imagine themselves using. I believe it is somewhat hard for one to easily come up with such phrases as "The theoretical framework underpinning this study is..." or "A number of studies have shown that... . However, important questions regarding N remains unanswered." In my humble opinion, these are beautiful and interesting phrases for an assignment, to say the least. I highly recommend this book for anyone preparing their final academic papers and for language teachers as well.

Seems to be written for beginning undergraduate students who have not been exposed to reading professional articles. It is also written as a fill-in-the-blanks kind of training that includes spelling and grammar. Not for the advanced student.

This book is a must-have if you want to upgrade your academic writing and express yourself more effectively.The grammar and vocabulary tips are relevant and comprehensive.Finding the right words and phrases won't take a lot of time anymore- they're all here in one book!

About the Author

Paul Knox received his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Sheffield, England. After teaching in the United Kingdom for several years, he moved to the United States to take a position as professor of urban affairs and planning at Virginia Tech. His teaching centers on urban and regional development, with an emphasis on comparative study. He has written several books on aspects of economic geography, social geography, and urbanization, and he serves on the editorial board of several scientific journals. In 1996 he was appointed to the position of University Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech, where he currently serves as Senior Fellow for International Advancement, and International Director of the Metropolitan Institute. Paul is the author or co-author of numerous books, including Pearson’s Urbanization 3rd edition and World Regions in Global Context.

 

Sallie Marston received her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has been a faculty member at the University of Arizona since 1986. Her teaching focuses on the political and cultural aspects of social life, with particular emphasis on sociospatial theory. She is the recipient of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award. Her teaching focuses on culture, politics, globalization, and methods. She is the author of over 70 journal articles, book chapters, and books and serves on the editorial board of several scientific journals. She is currently a professor in the School of Geography and Development at the University of Arizona. Sallie and Paul is coauthor Pearson’s introductory world regional geography textbook, World Regions in Global Context. In 2013 the Association of American Geographers recognized Sallie with a lifetime achievement award.

About the Author

Nick Abbott Nick Abbott is the head of training at iKOS. Nick started his digital life in 1981 working on an ICL 2904 mainframe, a Commodore PET, and a Commodore VIC20. Was clear and concise. My only complaint is that it doesn't make it clear enough that (1) Drupal 8 is a ways away from having the robust set of modules to extend its function; and (2) it is slower than D7 and requires more work (tweaking settings, etc) to make it perform well. But the book is solid and accurate and clear.

I will a bit disappointed. It doesn't go into much detail and is very basic in what it does discuss.

This book was great! It helped me understand the basics of Drupal 8. I would recommend this book to anyone who has not used Drupal before, it is a beginner book.

If you don't have any knowledge from working on servers then this is okay.Otherwise skip this book. There is probably better options out there

I was one of the reviewer during the development phase and found this book was quite interesting to read.If you are new to Drupal and want some basic concept with some advance featues, this is a good book to have for your library.
